Humanity is too precious to play around with...

photo by Bill Oxford Life circumstances have consumed the last 3 years of my personal life. I was totally uber-focused on my own world. I had truly needed to close shop on writing and other vanities, and give all my time to those personal matters. The first draft of my third novel was almost completed in 2017 when it all went to pot. I got the terrible news of a cancer diagnosis for my mother. This was horrible on so many counts because of the other issues which were consuming my time and life situation as well. Icing on a cake I didn’t want. I made a point to finish my third novel and then, I put the manuscript aside. I am one of the fortunate few who get to say I had wonderful...

Frau Farbissene

May 1, 2017 by

What is a farbissene? Imagine the face of someone who has just sucked on a very sour lemon. Now, take that imaginary face and allow a hateful tone about any given subject, to come out of that person’s mouth. The entire time they are speaking, they will continue to appear absolutely disgusted with you or another, or an event, or goodness knows what. That, is the best possible description of a farbissene. Farbissene is just one of those words, hard to translate but completely understood when you see it in action. I was recently confronted by Frau Farbissene. For many months now, my newly released novel, The Daily Diner, consumed my daily routine.  It was certainly one of the many reasons why I haven’t blogged in so long. To write any other word than consumed, would be, well, ludicrous. The story line had consumed me to the point where I had actually stopped writing another novel, put it to the side, and focused solely on The Daily Diner. I’m not sure why I needed to get it out of my system to the extent I did. I can surely take an educated guess, however. It all boils down to being human and what to my thinking, that word’s meaning should really entail. It means that “human” encompasses certain feelings, actions, desires, hopes (I could go on), that every one of us innately...

Becoming Human

Feb 20, 2016 by

More and more, I am realizing that people waste enormous amounts of energy trying to prove their way is the right way or that their belief system is the only correct way to view the universe or why we are here. When in fact, the opposite is the only truth. We are all the same. We all have the same hopes and dreams, the same capacity to love or hate, the same basic human needs. There was a time long ago when I would wonder if those who were overly zealous about their faith were on the fast track to favor and approval in the heavenly realm. That somehow, they were right and I was wrong…about what, I’m not sure. That they were as righteous as they claimed to be and were right to...
